Urgent Help Needed for Paul's Housing
Donation protected
My friend Paul is a hard-working sweetheart who's had a tough year. Through a series of unlucky events, he finds himself facing an eviction in 5 days. As a last resort, he's allowed me to make this GoFundMe for him. Please help me raise enough money for Paul to leave a bad living situation.
He is behind on his rent and is facing eviction (at the end of June)
Not only will an eviction kick Paul out of his current apartment, but will make it impossible for him to rent another. These issues compound each other and become insurmountable without help from friends.
How did we get here?
Paul's apartment building changes ownership frequently. He's been there 2 years and it has switched ownership twice in that time. With new owners come new rules and standards of living.
The 2nd owners changed the parking arrangements forcing tenants to park in a city lot, where Paul's catalytic converter was stolen from his car. This was the first unexpected major expense.
To make ends meet (when he is not given enough hours at his retail job) Paul does DoorDash. He works crazy hours, trying to make rent and other bills leaving him only enough time to sleep and then go back to work.
With his car broken, he couldn't DoorDash. The snowballing begins.
This winter the apartment’s boiler broke causing the building to have no heat. Instead of fixing the boiler, the new owners took a cheaper route and gave the tenants electric heaters. Not only did the heaters not adequately heat the apartments, but they also caused the shared electric bill to drastically go up.
During this very cold winter Paul got sick. He does not have sick days at his retail job and so he lost the income for those days. When Paul's sickness lasted much longer than expected, even resulting in a brief hospitalization, he was not fired, but his employer drastically cut his hours once he was ready to return to work.
So that he could start DoorDashing again (which was his only option to make up for the lost hours at work), he prioritized getting his car fixed instead of attending to other expenses.
DoorDashing was able to resume but anyone who has ever done this kind of work knows how unstable and unpredictable this income stream is. The bills continue to pile up.
Paul reaches out to multiple community services for rent assistance, but finds no programs that can help him. He does odd jobs for friends to bring in more money.
All of these efforts just aren't enough and now he finds himself here. He will be evicted if he doesn't have the full amount by July 1st.
Truly any amount will help. Thank you.
