Hello, I, Sylvester and Sebastian, are reaching out with a heavy heart to ask for urgent support for our 64-year-old mother who is in critical need of emergency bypass surgery.

Our mother has been diagnosed with five heart blockages. Doctors have clearly advised that she requires immediate bypass surgery to save her life.

She was admitted to BM Birla Heart Hospital, located in Kolkata, India, where after four days of evaluation the attending doctor informed us that she cannot be discharged and must undergo surgery without delay. However, after seeking a second opinion within the same hospital, we were told that due to her serious pre-existing conditions, Interstitial Lung Disease ILD and Connective Tissue Disease CTD related to ILD, her case is extremely high risk and requires advanced medical support during surgery.

Because of her fragile lung condition, the surgery requires not only a cardiac surgeon but also a lung specialist to be present during the procedure. This makes the operation far more complex and urgent.

Unlike in the UK where there is the National Health Service, there is no universal free healthcare system available to cover this procedure for us. The hospital care in India is not free, and the medical expenses for such a high risk and complex surgery are extremely expensive.

We explored financial assistance options including the West Bengal government health scheme Swasthya Sathi, but unfortunately, we have not been able to find a hospital willing to take on such a high-risk surgery under the scheme.

Due to the ongoing Middle East situation, I am currently unable to fly back to India to be by my mother’s side during this critical time, which makes this situation even more heartbreaking and difficult for my family.

Time is critical. Every passing day increases the risk to her life, and we cannot afford to delay this procedure any longer.

Our mother is the heart of our family, a loving parent who has always put everyone else before herself. Now she needs your support to give her a fighting chance at recovery.
