My name is Carlos del Solar, and today I am writing something I never imagined I would have to share. My family and I are going through one of the most difficult moments of our lives, and I am reaching out with all my heart to ask for help.

My brother, Francisco del Solar, lives in Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas, and is the father of three children who depend entirely on him. A couple of years ago, my brother’s wife —the mother of his children— passed away at only 32 years old. Since that devastating moment, he has been the sole emotional and financial support for his kids. He has worked tirelessly to give them stability, love, and a sense of safety despite everything they have lived through.

In September, while playing with his children, my brother slipped on wet grass and fell, hitting his head very hard. From that moment on, everything began to get worse. He started having epileptic seizures, severe headaches, periods where he couldn’t walk, and he has been hospitalized twice since the accident. The doctors have tried for months to avoid surgery, hoping the clot would shrink, but nothing has worked.

Yesterday, during his most recent appointment, we received the news we feared the most:

the blood clot has grown to twice its original size.

There is no alternative anymore. He urgently needs brain surgery.

The surgery must happen as soon as possible to give him the best chance to survive and return home to his children — children who have already lost their mother, and who cannot lose their father too.

My brother is terrified — not for himself, but for his kids.

He doesn’t want to leave them unprotected.

He doesn’t want them to grow up without parents.

He wants to live… for them.

As his sibling, it breaks my heart to see him suffering like this, and to see the fear and pain in my nieces and nephews. Unfortunately, I cannot travel to Mexico right now, and the only way I can truly help is by supporting him financially and asking for help from the people around me.

We need a little over $60,000 Mexican pesos, which is approximately $5,000 CAD, to cover the hospital costs and the specialized equipment required for the surgery. This amount is impossible for my family to gather quickly enough on our own, especially given how urgent the situation is.

That’s why I’m reaching out to the people who know me and who may be able to help during this deeply painful moment.
