Urgent Help Needed for Mona's Emergency Surgery

Hello friends. My name is Michelle, I'm a friend of Julio's and a fellow Xolo owner.

Many of you have been following Julio's journey with his brand Xolo Supply for a while now. Mona, one half of the heart and inspiration behind Julio's brand, is not doing well. On Thursday, she started feeling sick and presented with symptoms of —swollen vulva, loss of appetite, and overall discomfort. Julio, the loving pet parent he is, did what any responsible owner would do and administered meds that provided some relief. But things quickly took a turn.

Mona stopped eating and began shedding weight rapidly. By Saturday, December 30th, things escalated to constant vomiting despite not eating ANY of her food, not even chicken or high value treats. Julio knew he couldn't wait until after the new year to see Mona's regular vet, so he rushed her to the emergency vet.

The diagnosis was what he feared most: Mona has pyometra, and she needs emergency surgery.

Pyometra is a serious and potentially life-threatening infection of the uterus. Pyometra is caused by hormonal changes or bacteria. It's best treated with surgery to remove the ovaries and uterus, but the surgery for a pyometra is often more complicated than a spay for a normal, healthy dog. Some dogs may require more intensive care and monitoring for signs of sepsis, dehydration, shock, anemia and more. (Source: Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine)
