Hi, I’m Ivorie. I’m 21 and live in South Minneapolis. My rent was raised to $1,700 a month, and my job recently notified us that payments may be paused for up to 90 days due to ICE/DHS investigations affecting Somali owned PCA and healthcare agencies. As a result, I’m behind on rent and facing eviction. I don’t have anyone to turn to if i’m evicted & it would take years before I’m able to rent again. I applied for rental assistance, but the waitlist goes back to August.

 I work as a PCA for my disabled dad, whose SSI was delayed this month and may be cut. I can’t live with him because he’s in a strict housing program, and if his SSI stops, he won’t be able to cover rent which scares me. I’ve been applying for second jobs but haven’t heard back.

 I moved into this apartment after leaving a bed bug infested unit and had to secure housing on short notice. It was the first place that approved me, even though the rent was already too high.

 Donations will go toward overdue rent, moving costs, 2 months of rent, food for me, my dog, and my dad, and rent for my dad if his SSI is cut. I’m also dealing with a broken front tooth and six painful cavities I can’t afford to treat and am worried about infection.

I’m embarrassed to ask for help, but I don’t have personal support right now & I’m scared of becoming homeless. I will update everyone if I reach my goal. Any support, whether donating, sharing, or offering encouragement, means everything to me.
