Note: I took the above photo before my phone stopped working. I would take a better one, but that's all I have.
I live alone in Cleveland, Ohio, with no dependents or roommates. I've been living off the money my mother left me when she died about five and a half years ago, and that is quickly running out. I am lucky in that I live in a place where rent is income based, so it's quite low since I have no income, but that doesn't help at all with groceries. I lost my SNAP about 8 months ago due to no fault of my own. (I was supposed to be doing more than I was doing, and they didn't tell me that until I had been not doing it for long enough to kick me off the program.)
I don't receive disability (though I am in the process of reapplying.) I don't drive, the fact I have no depth perception due to a misaligned eye makes it unsafe, and I couldn't afford to maintain a car anyway. (Not having a car makes going to food banks with any frequency, or even many jobs, impractical. Also, my food allergies mean I may not even be able to eat a good chunk of what I get from banks. I spend about $60/week on groceries, and I do have the means to get them delivered from a local store for no additional cost.) I currently take prescriptions for ADHD, Depression, Diabetes, Hypertension, and allergies; the asthma and allergies make going out difficult (even with a mask.) Doctors have tried giving me sleep meds to help my Delayed Sleep Phase Disorder, but none of them have worked satisfactorily. (I do have Medicaid, so prescriptions and doctor visits aren't a problem, especially because my primary doctor has an attached pharmacy which delivers for free, just food and rent are what I need.)
I also need to get a new window air conditioner. (My old one died near the end of last summer; I actually own the unit, it's not provided by my apartment building.) As I stated before, I have asthma, so excess heat makes it hard to both breathe and sleep, and I recently discovered that several of my meds increase heat sensitivity which exacerbates the problem. My apartment generally stays pretty warm, even in the winter, and that gets quite bad in the summer.
I've tried to get remote work, with no real success. (A couple have looked promising, but didn't pan out.) I do have a few things I'm doing to make some money online, but none of them have paid out this month (and I have no idea when the next ones are likely to be.) I can't give plasma because of my various health issues. I already don't have enough money to buy groceries again, let alone pay my rent or other bills, and on top of that my phone just died yesterday, so I need to get that repaired too.
