Juan* was forcefully abducted by ICE in front of his home in Silver Spring, just a block from New Hampshire Estates ES. Juan is a loving husband, devoted grandfather, generous community member, and longtime deacon and church leader. He has lived in Maryland for thirty years. Left behind are Juan’s wife Ana* and their 14-year-old grandson whom they have been lovingly raising in their home for many years. Juan was seized and taken from his family as he got into his car on his first day of work after three months recuperating from a life-threatening illness and surgery. In addition to his recent recovery, Juan suffers from severe chronic health problems and needs daily medications to not be hospitalized.

Ana is overwhelmed with navigating the ICE maze, as Juan was moved within 72 hours from Baltimore, Maryland to Fresno, California. Juan’s family has only heard from him once due to ICE’s bureaucratic nightmare of red tape. The days are excruciatingly long as Ana is working round the clock to pick up the pieces, secure legal help, and find support to feed and shelter herself and her grandson. Ana suffered a stroke recently and is not completely recovered. Juan was her caregiver and the sole breadwinner. And he is now thousands of miles away, while his life-sustaining medication remains on the coffee table in his family’s home.

Ana needs the support of caring neighbors because she is elderly and cannot work. Please contribute to Ana’s household costs and legal fees as she fights to free Juan from detention. Only with lawyers is there a chance to secure release, and only with your support will Ana be able to keep herself and her grandson housed as they figure out a way forward in this traumatic time.
