Hello, recently my wife and I got married and moved. U-Haul told us the day before we had a reservation to pick up a truck that they didn’t have one for us. We looked at other moving companies but they were sold out. We had to go with PODS. PODS told us we could do a payment plan so we didn’t have to worry about paying anything up front.
The day before dropping off the PODS, customer service called me and said I had to do an upfront payment of $1,100. I told them I was informed I could do a payment plan and they said I can, but I have to pay the $1,100 upfront to get the PODS dropped off. I doubled down on asking if they were sure because I really wanted to do the payment plan. They said “yes”. I paid the $1,100. PODS got dropped off. We loaded everything, they picked it up. And we drove 19-20 hours to our new state and home.
We get there and call PODS. They tell us we have to pay $5,000 to get our stuff transported from one state to the next. I informed them I was told about a payment plan and we don’t just have $5,000 to pay. After calling multiple PODS number for help and to rectify the situation, no one has been able to help. They say I have to pay the $5,000 and aren’t taking responsibility that I was lied to by one of their customer service reps.
We are now miles away from our things, it’s at their warehouse, our cats don’t have their things and they are adjusting to a new place, our bearded dragon is in a box because his tank is in the PODS and his lights to keep him warm, my sensitive information that I need for work is in the PODS, my wife’s personal paintings and family jewelry are also in there. We have nothing right now. They only hold it for a month, and we have no other way of coming up with the money in a short time frame. Please help us.
