Urgent Help Needed: Andy's Medical Journey
My name is Renee Morgan. My husband Andy and I, are asking for your help with medical and travel expenses. On December 26th, 2024, Andy went to the ER with a terrible headache. After a few scans, he was told he has a CSF leak (cerebrospinal fluid leak) causing low-pressure headaches. It's a rare condition that not many doctors have experience with. He was transported by ambulance to Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center for brain and spine. After 2.5 months of traveling back and forth for scans, tests, and appointments, they were able to locate the leak but because of the location being so close to his brain, their team of neurologists aren't confident they have the expertise to perform the surgery to repair it. The neurosurgeons told us we have to go to Duke University in North Carolina where there is an entire department who specialize specifically with CSF cases. They will need to do surgery. That's what we were afraid of the most.
Our family had never even heard of a CSF leak before. Now, it's the focus of our lives. Andy is a loyal and devoted father and husband. He's the hardest working man I know and would do anything for his family. He prides himself on providing for his family and protecting his loved ones fiercely. When his doctor took him off work "until further notice," it nearly broke him. The risk of inner cranial hemorrhage is too great for him to even be upright for extended periods. He lives in 20-minute intervals. That's all the time he gets before the headache comes and is so severe, he is forced to lay back down to reduce the pressure around his brain.
On March 10th, he had the brain MRI to send to Duke University along with the previous scans. We are waiting for the call to find out when he needs to be in North Carolina and what will happen after. We never thought it would be this serious. Andy is terrified along with our 5 children. He is loved dearly by his family and friends, so watching him suffer, mentally and physically, breaks our hearts.
We humbly ask for your help with the travel, lodging, and medical expenses. As of today, we don't know how soon or for how long we will need to be in North Carolina. We have been able to manage the expenses with insurance and our savings so far. The support and generosity of our family, friends, and employers already, is such a blessing and we're very lucky in that way.
For a man who is so generous, kind and giving, it's extremely difficult to ask for help under any circumstances. I'm sure all of you can relate. We want to thank you in advance from the depths of our soul for any donation you're able to give. You're so appreciated.
"No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted."
