Hello,
My name is Andrea, and I am reaching out because we need HELP.
Some of you know our story. You've seen the ups and downs, while others of you haven't.
Life has not been easy- it has such beautiful moments, but sometimes it hits you hard. When this happens, we do our best to get up, brush the dirt, and keep climbing because what else are we supposed to do? Sometimes, though, the hill becomes a mountain in front of us, the fall hurts too much, and the thought of climbing again becomes too much to even begin to process. That's when we realize that we need a little help, and this is why I am writing to you today. Though uncomfortable to come out like this, we need our community desperately right now. We need our friends, we need our family, we need our village, we need your love and support.
My family's home is under foreclosure with the sale date in October. I am not asking for help in saving it. Unfortunately, we are past that point, and just need to move forward, but we do not have the funds to do it alone. My family is in a very low financial point right now. In order to care for my brother, and the other emotional and mental needs of the family my mom had to step back from working while my youngest brother got through high school. I will not go into detail on this, as those of you close to us already know and understand the situation. Though it was not an easy decision, it was the best one for the family. At the moment, my family depends solely on my dad's income, which unfortunately is not secure or consistent.
They only have a few months to secure a place to live, and due to my brother's situation in school and the current special program he is attending, they have to stay in Norwalk to continue working with this program. With their financial situation being a huge weight, our options are limited. Unfortunately, most affordable housing units in Norwalk have 2-5+ years waiting lists and rigorous applications that are not realistic in the time we have until the sale date. Our next option is to secure an apartment until progress is made with the affordable housing applications. Unfortunately, the downpayment and moving costs are a great obstacle and as painful as it is to write this down because it makes it all the more real to me, they are facing homelessness.
This situation, the lack of stability, the fear, it is really affecting us deeply.
It is painful to write this. I am losing the closest thing I had to a childhood home, and I have to make my peace with this. Over the years, our financial situation has gotten worse, and I've watched the place slowly crumble. This was our home, we moved in with so much hope, we made so many special memories there, but also lost so much to time and life under that roof. It has not been easy for me, let alone my family who still lives there, now facing foreclosure and financial strain.
I am working with everything I have to get there one day, but right now, I am not in a position in life where I can just sweep in and save my family alone. My mom gave up everything for me, and until the day I can do it by myself, I need your help in returning that gratitude and helping her secure a new home for herself and my siblings and their two pups.
Please help us raise enough money for a downpayment and moving costs. We set the goal higher, to help with the first couple of months of rent if we are able to meet our goal. If you have any resources or leads on affordable places to live, please also share those as well. We are so grateful to you, to our friends, family, community, and village.
My Abuelita used to say all moments in life have a purpose. I tend to think about her a lot during these tough moments and hold onto her words of comfort because situations like these sometimes hurt, and it's so hard to make sense of them. Maybe during these moments, there's no point in searching for a reason, but rather leaning on love and remembering that life is more than these obstacles. Life is the people in it, the love they carry, and the actions and moments that mold us. In all past hurdles, you've all really been there for me, for us, and we've gotten through it all. We will get up from this, and keep moving forward.
Thank you so much for your love and support.
