Urgent: Help Kerrville Recover from Flooding

PLEASE HELP KERRVILLE COMMUNITY RECOVER FROM FLASH FLOODS

UPDATE: This Go Fund Me was set up early on the morning of July 4th when my cousin, who lives in Kerrville, called me to tell me of the flooding before the news even broke. We initially set it up thinking we would raise a few hundred dollars to feed first responders, having NO IDEA what the gravity of the situation would be. This has since become a national disaster and we have since raised much more than anticipated. We will continue to raise the money to fill the gaps in the community, where my cousin is physically, boots on the ground, in the trenches, volunteering, cleaning up, helping sort supplies, trying to maintain some normalcy for her kids (she's a teacher in Center Point) through track practices, etc., and seeing where smaller areas of the community may not be being reached by the larger efforts.

Today would normally be a day filled with music, river fun, and the annual 4th of July Robert Earl Keen celebration down by the river, but instead, this holiday has turned into a heartbreaking, natural disaster crisis.

Since midnight, flash floods have caused the Guadalupe River to overflow and 24 FEET of flood water has been reported in the community. The water from the river is up to the "big bridge" (if you know the area). If you don't know the area, this is where families and kids go YEAR ROUND and the "big bridge" is roughly about 20' above the ground. The water has reached that bridge. And it’s still raining.

This is personal, friends, for me and for my family.
Kerrville is the town where both my late mom and dad were raised. It's the town where my sister and I grew up going to family reunions in the summers. It’s the town where I spent two years during the pandemic. It’s the town where my cousin, Sara, and I owned and operated The Yoga Space for three years. It's where she has called home for 20 years. And it’s where much of our extended family still lives.

To my knowledge, we haven't seen flooding like this since the "BIG FLOOD" of the '80, the one my Mamaw used to tell me about while pointing to a tire stuck high in a tree saying: “The water got that high.” :)

As of now, my family is safe. But many others are not:

  • Reports of a woman being swept away by the river-- rescued by a stranger but now stranded waiting for help
  • A child near has been reported trapped in a tree, also awaiting rescue
  • People have been reported missing, stranded, river businesses swept away
  • The Hunt Store, a childhood memory for me, and a family icon for the Coopers has been reported with damages, to what extent, we are unsure

And it's still raining.

⚡️WE NEED YOUR HELP⚡️
We are raising funds for:

✅ Emergency supplies for first responders (food, water, equipment)
✅ Clean drinking water and daily essentials for displaced families
✅ Direct community support: every dollar will go exactly where it’s needed most IN KERRVILLE

Not one cent raised will go to a single individual. This is 100% for community recovery. We will be reaching out to the disaster recovery centers that have been established in churches and the communities to see exactly what essentials are needed, as they have received many donations and we want to fill the gaps, not replicate. Any donations remaining will go directly to the Center Point community families of the displaced children where my cousin teaches 7th grade math and is the track coach and to the Hill Country Relief Fund that was established after this GoFundMe. So in all events, it will be going directly to the community of Kerrville, Center Point, where my cousin lives and works.

If each person I am connected with on social media gives just $10, we could raise over $13,000-- enough to make a real impact, fast.

Please, help however your heart is called to do so. Share. Donate. Pray. Act.

Thank you for helping our hometown.

With so much love and gratitude,
Tracy & Sara
