“ Urgent help is needed to save Woody”
Woody is our precious, sweet and “young at heart” rescue boy. He has recently been diagnosed with cancer ~ Plasma Cell Neoplasia. Plasma Cell cancers, like Multiple Myeloma, are generally very responsive to chemotherapy and usually have a slow progression. Treatment for Woody involves oral chemotherapy given at home, and ongoing blood work to assess response. He is on the Pulse Protocol which means every 3 weeks he will receive his oral chemotherapy for 5 days at home. He then gets a little break and then the cycle starts all over again. In between cycles, he has his follow-up appointment. We hope to see Woody’s blood work in the near future show he is in remission. His first follow-up blood work revealed his body was already responding to his treatment. With continued treatment, our beautiful full-of-life, spunky, fun-loving, affectionate boy maintains a great prognosis, and we hope he will be with us for many years to come!
**His chemotherapy therapy treatment will not stop once he is in remission. He will be on chemotherapy every 3 weeks for the rest of his life. Without his chemotherapy treatments, we will lose him in a very short period of time ~ approximately 1-3 months.
Unfortunately, my husband was recently laid off from his job and we are now feeling very overwhelmed financially. We need your help. Woody deserves to continue living his best life, watching for and chasing bunnies and squirrels, going on walks and for car rides, playing fetch and hockey ball, snuggling with his younger fur brother Bailey (also a rescue), snuggling with us, eating cupcakes and burgers on special occasions and being the best neighbourhood watch window monitor.
Woody’s treatment may change as we continue on this journey with him. I will update you as we go along.
The phrase “Who Rescued Who” says it all. Our darling wonderful Woody rescued us as much as we rescued him. He is our fur child ..our family. Please help us help him!
We thank you and send hugs ..Susan, Joel, Woody and Bailey
*Important Update*
*Woody developed severe febrile neutropenia and severe thrombocytopenia ( low white blood cells and low platelets ) and had to be hospitalized on 5/11/23. He remains in hospital and will stay there until he is out of danger. Yesterday 5/13/23 his blood work revealed a slight improvement. A small victory we will take. It could take a while for his platelets and white blood cells to come back up to be within a normal range and we are optimistically hopeful they will.
Once his blood work is back to normal he will continue with his chemo treatments but at a lower dose to prevent this from happening again *
