Joe and Carrie Proffitt are a kind hearted couple living in the St Mary's area of GA. Joe is an exceptional carpenter who has renovated many homes in Camden County over the past 20 years to include building the Wee Pubs in St. Marys and Brunswick, Cedar Oak Cafe, Bulldog Liquors, and Lucky Dawgs (Pirate’s Point).
Joe and Carrie work hard and are always there to help friends and family in need. Joe loves doing volunteer work for the Eagle’s Lodge Veteran’s events. He has such a big heart and goes above and beyond to create one of a kind renovations.
Over the past year and a half this amazing couple has been hit with, what seems like, one disaster after another beginning with Joe falling from a latter and fracturing his T2 vertebrae. He was unable to work for several months. Upon returning to work, he was having hip pain and was told he would need a hip replacement. Steps were taken to proceed. A few weeks later Joe passed out while on a job. He was rushed to the ER. They were shocked to find out his heart was only functioning at 10-15% and was diagnosed to be in congestive heart failure. His heart rate rose to 40-45% after 7 months of cardiac care and having his heart shocked on two separate occasions. Again, he returned to work and was released from his cardiologist to have his hip replacement on August 6th. His hip surgery was a success and after 8 weeks of recovery Joe returned to his next work project the following Monday.
Throughout this time Joe and Carrie have dug into their savings, sold items, and whatever it took to keep the bills paid, all while having the attitude that this too shall pass.
On Monday, October 13th Joe was traveling on Kingsbay Road when he was struck by a Fire Rescue truck at the intersection. The impact was so hard that it ejected him from his work truck. He was unconscious and air lifted to a Jacksonville Hospital.
Joe has been in the ICU unit for a week with multiple brain bleeds, a fractured skull, large open laceration that required a Local Advancement Flap procedure, facial lacerations, bruised lung, broken ribs, fractured spine and multiple cuts all over his body. He has made some small jesters of response but due to the multiple brain bleeds he is fighting for his life with a long road to recovery. Carrie has been by his side in the ICU Unit throughout his hospitalization.
Joe and Carrie are so loved by their community and have hundreds, if not thousands, of people praying for them and many reaching out to ask how they can help.
These two amazing people have asked for nothing. But, as their friends we see their need for help and support. They still have monthly bills to pay, food will be needed, and gas money for travel to and from to the hospital. After so many setbacks they are literally “scrapping the bottom of the barrel”.
PLEASE, if you could find it in your heart and wallet to help, they, along with us would be so grateful for every penny.
We believe in the POWER OF PRAYER and ask for your prayers and to add Joe and Carrie to EVERY prayer list!
