My name is Faron, I'm fundraising on behalf of my partner Aspen. Aspen is a 2-Spirit indigenous beadwork artist. Aspen needs a double mastectomy for both gender affirming and MEDICAL reasons. He was involved in a hit and run accident on his motorcycle a few years back, which resulted in multiple broken ribs among several other (untreated) abdominal injuries. Binding with any available method (tape, binder, ect) causes him excruciating pain, and not binding is extremely uncomfortable socially. He has also had extremely low oxygen counts on his most recent blood tests, and the doctors say it's an issue caused by the binding. Aspen is also high risk for cancer, and this operation would drastically reduce that risk. Insurance refuses to cover the surgery and is even refusing a peer-to-peer with his surgeon due to the fact that he is transgender. Due to changes by the Trump administration, his insurance is no longer willing to cover it as of the 1st of this year. There is no option for a payment plan or financial assistance and we only have $1,000 available through care credit. Either we pay $12,807 upfront before surgery or he won't get it. He has already fundraised approximately $2,000 himself, which is why this fundraiser is set at a lower value than what the surgery costs. He is not coping well with the prospect of not getting surgery as he will have to continue to live with the excruciating pain his ribs cause him. I cannot express how urgent this surgery is for both his physical and mental well-being. We have 17 days.
