Help a Mom Get Life-Saving Surgery
We’re reaching out to you with an urgent plea for help. A mom and dear friend, Yesenia Sanchez, is in a critical situation where her health insurance won't cover the $20,000 surgery needed to save her life.
Her Story:
I was bedridden for five months before my doctor’s appointment on January 2nd. I was immediately taken to the ER and admitted. I was severely lacking in vitamins and nutrients and couldn’t walk.
After being admitted, they tried to give me nutrients, but my body went into shock. I was in and out of consciousness for over a month. I was then moved to another hospital, where a GI specialist discovered that my stomach is twisted and kinked, preventing me from eating normally. I spent two and a half weeks there while they searched for someone willing to perform the life-saving surgery I need, which is a gastric revision. I was then transferred to a hospital in Denver, where a surgeon is willing to help. However, my body was too weak for surgery, so I was sent home with home health care, a PICC line, and TPN, which provides nutrition directly to my heart.
My surgeon recently submitted a request for pre-approval of the surgery, but my insurance company denied it, as the surgery is excluded from my policy. We are appealing, but it could take up to three months to get an answer. Meanwhile, my liver levels are rising quickly each week, and there's a risk I might need dialysis due to liver failure. My underlying condition prevents me from getting a transplant because the nutrition through TPN is damaging my liver.
The only way I can have this surgery is by paying out of pocket, and it costs $20,000.
We are asking for any contribution, big or small, to help cover the cost of this surgery. Your support could make all the difference in saving her life. Thank you for taking the time to read her story and for considering helping in any way you can..
