Your support could change everything for this 54-year-old single mom going through chemo, job loss, and housing loss
My daughter Tracy is a single mom who was just diagnosed with two types of cancer on April 5. She is facing a fight for her survival and for housing. Any help you can provide will go directly toward supporting Tracy through her upcoming chemo and help the family secure their housing.
On Easter night, Tracy received the news no one wants to hear.
Tracy was at our relative’s house for dinner, but she was not well enough to eat. In fact, she’d been feeling ill and unable to eat much at all, for several weeks. Her back hurt, her abdomen hurt, she was exhausted and losing weight rapidly.
When she walked through the door to see her family for Easter, they were shocked by how much her appearance had changed. It was clear something was terribly wrong.
They took Tracy to urgent care, where the doctor told her to go straight to the ER at GBMC here in the Baltimore area.
Doctors discovered a large mass that was ready to burst through the wall of her colon. She required immediate emergency surgery.
Testing revealed Tracy had not one, but two, forms of cancer: Stage III colon cancer and Stage I cancer in her appendix.
By the grace of God, the surgery was successful. Part of her colon was removed with the tumor, and also her appendix.
After a 10-day hospital stay, Tracy is now back home recovering with an ileostomy bag. She will need medical supplies for the ileostomy, i.e., bags, gloves, skin barrier wipes, etc. She will begin chemotherapy in a few weeks and face a long road to recovery.
But that’s not the only challenge she is facing.
Tracy was laid off from her job 20 months ago and has struggled to find work—a task made even more difficult because of the cancer that was lurking in her body undetected, draining away her energy.
Her house is now in pre-foreclosure.
She and her son urgently need help.
Without a job, and without being well enough to work right now, Tracy has no way to earn income. If the foreclosure continues, the family will be homeless.
Prior to her illness and diagnosis, Tracy worked hard to find a new job. She started a resale business to earn money to survive. This effort was not enough to pay her mortgage. She was also affected by the cutting of SNAP benefits. And now that Tracy is not well and not medically cleared to drive, her income is now zero.
Every donation, large or small, will help Tracy and her son during this incredibly stressful time.
She does not have a safety net to fall into.
Sometimes it takes the kindness of strangers for a miracle to happen.
At first, Tracy did not want us to start a GoFundMe for her. But this situation is an EMERGENCY.
Tracy has kept up a positive attitude and is doing her best to be strong for her son and herself.
But this is more than one person should bear.
Any support you can share here will help Tracy and her son keep going. Please help if you can.
