Hurricane Helene Relief Fund for Tori & Mack Dorie
Donation protected
My daughter and her husband, Victoria and Mackenzie Dorie, are currently in need of financial assistance in the wake of Hurricane Helene. They live in Fairview NC, which is about 15 minutes southeast of Asheville, one of the many communities that were devastated by the unexpectedly powerful forces of Hurricane Helene.
They currently have had no power, no running water, no cell service without travel, and have been cooking what food they have outside in a home made fire pit since the 27th of September. Every day is a struggle, taking trips to get enough cellular connection to contact family to say they're safe, and scout out water, food, and supplies (of which there are virtually none) while preserving what little gasoline they have (after using the gasoline left in their lawn mower to top off their car). Communications have been sporadic, with only a few select areas getting cell phone reception (and only after disaster roaming was turned on).
Victoria (Tori) and Mackenzie (Mack) moved to NC about five years ago in order to start a new life together. They married a short time later and are a loving couple who are working and planning their future together.
Mack is a Marine veteran who is finishing up his last year of school for mechanical engineering. I've come to know Mack and he is an intelligent, calm, and extremely kind and patient man,
Tori is a dental assistant and has become a part of a family-owned dental practice that have been supportive and really helped her rise to her true potential. She has a natural strength to provide care to others with compassion and understanding as well as a strong work ethic which has opened many doors for her on her path to success.
The employees at the family owned practice she works for are valued members of the community.
They recently offered their services to help those who cannot afford regular dental care by participating in an all day event.
Tori and Mack want to continue their life that they built but right now, their future is uncertain.
Conditions have slowly been stabilizing as the storm has passed and flood water receded, and as aid from the national guard, FEMA, and many linemen and other volunteers have poured in, and they seek some of the hurricane assistance that just became available, that will take time. But right now, and for the foreseeable future, they will fall on hard times due to the damage to the infrastructure of theirs and neighboring towns, as well as damage to the major highways and roads.
Whether they decide that it isn't feasible to stay, or decide to stick it out and rebuild as part of a community they've come to know and love, the money from this fundraiser will be there to help sustain, or relocate, all depending on how the situation improves, or doesn't.
I am her father, Howard Livingston and I live in Massachusetts with Tori's younger brother Johnathan. She has an older sister Alexandria who lives in Pennsylvania. We will send the funds to Tori and Mack by means of Venmo.
We calculated two months worth of rent in the total donation goal, or, enough to rent a truck to move away.
In either case, your money will go to where it needs to. We hope that you can show your support.
Thank you so much for contributing.
