Urgent Ectopic Cilia Surgery Needed, Please Help My Simba
Donation protected
Hello! I'm a single mother of two fur babies, one is Simba (2 1/2yrs old) and my other is Parker (1 1/2yrs old). I love them more than anything! Simba is a chihuahua/lab mix, he was a happy, wild, and ready to take on the world puppy. He's an amazing dog but his light has been dimmed by this condition that he was born with, Ectopic Cilia.
This condition causes multiple of his eyelashes to protrude through the inside of the eye in the upper lid, which can create a great deal of discomfort, these tiny hairs feel like spikes rubbing against his eyes. Ectopic cilia is not a life threatening disorder, but it can be very serious and potentially cause permanent eye damage. His eyes get swollen often and he wears a plastic cone every day because until his surgery he's at constant risk for eye infections which breaks my heart every day. Also he's had two infections already so I'm not trying to allow another to develop. The vet made it clear he needs the surgery by the end of winter because he's at risk of another infection.
Since he was wrongly diagnosed for over 2 yrs by a previous vet I no longer take him to, I spent thousands of dollars at that hospital trusting that they knew what they were doing because I had been a client for 8yrs, so I trusted the vet. With each visit I took him to I was informed medicated eye drops should help and to continue putting the cone on him so he can't scratch. A dog can not live a happy, quality life wearing a plastic cone everyday and feeling so uncomfortable he can't even open his eyes much. Thankfully I found a vet that immediately was able to tell me the condition he has. Although I feel blessed to finally have answers, the cost of the surgery ranges between $1,500-2,500 and he will need multiple follow up appointments to check for regrowth of the hairs.
This is the most expensive treatment I've had to deal with and it's not covered by insurance. I'm trying to sell my artwork as fast as possible but I can only sell so much because I am just starting the business plus I have many other expenses. I'm desperate for help because he can't keep suffering, I miss my spicy boys energy. He's not the same since his eyes have worsen, he's legitimately depressed and never wants to do anything but sleep because his eyes hurt so much. Please help my Simba get closer to getting surgery before the end of winter. Anything is appreciated, even a dollar, money is money. Thank you so much for taking the time to read about Simba and what he's been going through! I appreciate the communities support always.
