This is Scooter, he is my pet rat and the sweetest boy in the world.
He is 1.3 years old.
He was recently neutered and has been having complication after complication.
First he developed a hematoma, then an abscess.
He was on antibiotics and medicated cream to heal the abscess.
However, it continues not to heal correctly.
Yesterday (02/19) I had to rush him to Angell memorial hospital in Boston because his abscess started bleeding an abnormal amount.
(I have handled abscesses with my other rat and know how they work, and this was not typical for an abscess, I knew something was wrong)
It is already about $220 just to have your animal seen for emergency care. This I anticipated.
After triage they decided it was best he stay overnight so they can monitor his bleeding and put a little cone on him to stop him from trying to touch his wound.
At this point, they gave me an estimate of $1,200 - $1,800 for the care.
I had to pay the low end of this estimate yesterday (02/19) before I left Angell.
Now today, (02/20) I am told it is more complicated than they originally thought, and the fix is not so simple.
They believe he has a hernia (they have to do an ultrasound to see, so that is another expense), making intervention a lot more complicated.
At this point, (02/20) when I received this update over the phone, I was informed there would be a new estimate for his care since he needs a lot more now.
This new estimate (attached in the photo) is $1,800 - $2,800.
This is on TOP of the $220 + $1,000 I already paid.
I am not even certain of the outcome yet, but regardless, I will have to handle this bill.
I am desperate to do anything my Scooter needs to recover and be okay.
He is only 1.3 and if you know rats, you know they have a very short lifespan (average about 2.5 years). I need my boy back, i need another year with him at least.
He is the best rat, my heart rat.
I am devastated and beside myself right now.
On top of the emotional aspect, this is very hard on me financially.
With that said, absolutely ANYTHING helps.
To anybody considering donating, I appreciate you very much and just know I am eternally grateful.
All money will go directly toward his vet bill.
