Hi, I am Holly Diaz and the aunt of my nephew, Ryan Lightfoot. Ryan is on a cruise right now in Mexico and had a medical emergency on the ship and collapsed. They did get him back, but he is hemorrhaging and bleeding either from his stomach or esophagus. They are careflighting him from Mexico to the USA, Houston, for emergency surgery. He and his wife and three boys are with him, along with his mother. Please help with what you can as they have no medical insurance. Careflight alone is going to be $15,000 at this time, and with surgery in Houston, they expect it to climb. He is in critical condition. Please say a prayer and pray he is okay.
Thank you all,
Holly
update*on his way to airport vía ambulance and being flown to Ft Lauderdale FL to get treatment to stop bleed asap. He is stable now but had blood loss and cannot afford to start bleeding again while traveling. Pray for safe travels and for bleeding to stop. His BP last night when he crashed and was bleeding was at 60/40. Thank you for your prayers and help and we will post once he arrives in Florida for surgery.
Update**
Ryan was taken off the cruise ship by stretcher in Costa Maya in an emergency debarkation. He was transported via non-climate controlled Ambulance on a 2 and half hour trip to Quintana Roo Airport where the Jet ICU flight crew was standing by to receive him. They were able to return him to stable condition so they could make the flight. In Florida Ryan was rushed immediately from Jet ICU to Adventura Hospital where he was assessed by the triage team. They immediately ordered orthoscopic surgery of his esophagus to determine and potentially stop the internal bleeding that Carnival doctors were unable to find. On board they did not have the imaging systems available to help him how he needed to be helped so his emergency transportation was absolutely paramount. Once the doctors performed the scope and effectively stopped the bleeding, he was cleared to return home. He arrived home yesterday and has been resting. The rest of the family returned home today. Thankfully Ryan should make a full recovery but there is still more to come. The medical expenses are miniscule compared to the Air and Ambulance transportation and without health insurance, he and his family are going to have a financial mountain to climb to get him back to healthy.
