Urgent Help for Puppies Battling Parvovirus

Donation protected
911 PARVO AT LARGE 911

My fellow rescuers, family, and friends, I'm reaching out with an urgent plea for help. Nine innocent puppies were battling the devastating effects of parvovirus, and the survival of the remaining 4 puppies depends on immediate and extensive veterinary care.

I desperately need your financial assistance to give them a fighting chance. What began as a simple favor – babysitting nine foster puppies for a few days while their foster parent went on an anniversary trip – has turned into a desperate fight for their lives. As I brought the puppies into my home, I immediately noticed one was lethargic and unresponsive. Despite a negative home parvo test, the puppy deteriorated rapidly. After a four-hour search on Saturday, I found a CVETS veterinarian clinic willing to see him. Tragically, he was suffering immensely, and the prognosis was bleak. With a heavy heart, I made the difficult decision to humanely euthanize him.

Initial prognosis from CVETS was that the puppy died of hookworm infestation as they did not get a positive test result showing parvovirus as the culprit. Unbeknownst to me for another 30 hours, the other puppies were infected with parvovirus. It is a cruel and insidious disease, with symptoms often appearing days after exposure. Within those hours, the telltale signs emerged: bloody diarrhea, vomiting, lethargy, fever, and weakness. The puppies were fighting a relentless battle. Of the original nine, only four have survived. My home has become a makeshift hospital, a triage center where I've been forced to learn veterinary skills on the fly. I'm still recovering from a car accident, and my mobility to travel up and down stairs is challenging to care for these vulnerable babies. What was supposed to be a five-day commitment has turned into a 14+ day desperate, ongoing struggle. The initial veterinary visit at CVETS resulted in a $507 invoice, but parvovirus wasn't initially identified. Instead, hookworms were suspected. Tragically, this misdiagnosis delayed crucial treatment. The veterinary bill has now soared to over $8,600, a staggering sum that doesn't include my initial $507 contribution at CVETS.

The puppies are not out of the woods yet. One continues to struggle, but the others are showing signs of improvement. I've been fortunate to have the support and good advice of skilled friends who have helped me set up a clinic triage in my spare bedroom. I've learned to administer medications and provide critical care. I'm incredibly grateful to Edgefield Veterinary Clinic, who has allowed accrual of a balance for the puppies' care. Their trust and support have been invaluable. We are also receiving invaluable in-home ambulatory care from a mobile vet service in Lexington, SC. These puppies deserve a chance at life. They were rescued from a backyard owner surrender of an unwanted litter; they've already endured so much. The original foster parent is contributing to the bill, but the financial burden for me is still overwhelming. The cost of their life-saving treatment is daunting, far beyond my means and the modest resources of the rescue group that I initially sought help from. We are still in need of funds to fully pay the vet bill. Please, I beg you to donate whatever you can. Every dollar counts. Even the smallest contribution can make a difference. Consider skipping your daily coffee today or a takeout meal to help these puppies.
