On Saturday, November 15th, my good friend Nicole experienced something that is every dog parent's worst nightmare. Her sweet dog, Onyx, was rushed in for emergency surgery to save his life.
It all started Saturday morning when Onyx suddenly began vomiting uncontrollably. Nicole rushed him to the vet, where he was given anti-nausea medication and sent home. Over the course of the day, Onyx's condition continued to deteriorate as he became lethargic and soon started struggling to breathe and walk.
Onyx was then rushed to the emergency vet, where Nicole was told that he had an obstruction in his stomach. He was in such bad shape that he was not able to be brought into surgery right away because he was so dehydrated and his vitals were too low. Soon, Onyx started to become septic, so the vets were forced to do the surgery even though his vitals did not seem strong enough. He was in critical condition throughout the night, but thankfully started to stabilize in the morning. Onyx is slowly taking a turn for the better, but he is in quite a bit of pain and it will be a long and slow road to recovery.
Through all this stress and fear, Nicole is now dealing with astronomical vet bills which are growing by the day as Onyx remains at the animal hospital, which is imperative to his recovery.
At this time, Onyx's vet bills are estimated at around $15,000 and will continue to grow each day until he is stable enough to come home. If you know Nicole, you know that she is always the first one to help others and does not like to ask for help for herself, but these extreme unexpected expenses are devastating. If you are able to donate towards Onyx's ongoing recovery, it would mean the world to Nicole and Onyx. Any amount helps, as well as every share. Please continue to keep Onyx and Nicole in your thoughts and prayers.
