Calling All Angels!

Support is urgently needed for my Balinese friends, Niko and his mother, Mas!

I met Gusti Ngurah Darma Putra, nicknamed “Niko” in January of this year when he picked me up as a Gojeck driver (Indonesia's version of Uber). From the very first ride, we connected deeply over conversations about spirituality and karma.

A few days later, fate brought us together again, and then, incredibly, it happened a third time. The chances of being picked up by the same motorbike driver in Bali, where there are hundreds of thousands, are almost impossible. This was no coincidence. I quickly realized we were old soul friends, and I ended up hiring him privately for the rest of my stay, just so we could continue our deep conversations and share endless laughs, especially when I mispronounced Balinese phrases.

Niko’s positivity and gratitude for life touched my heart profoundly. Despite his challenges, he carries a light within him that is truly inspiring. Niko lost his father when he was just a baby, leaving him as the sole caretaker of his mother, “Mas”. On an income of less than $300 a month, he works tirelessly to provide for them, living in conditions most of us would consider severe poverty.

Recently, their situation became even more challenging. Heavy rainstorms caused significant damage to their home, and while Mas was trying to fix a leak in the roof, a pipe struck her, knocking out her front teeth and cracking two others. Their home is now falling apart, with major repairs needed to fix the foundation and other structural damage. Despite these hardships, they remain positive, with their faith and love carrying them forward. Mas continues her spiritual practice as she weaves offerings, surviving on only porridge.

Niko didn’t ask for anything, but I could see the worry in his eyes as he wondered how he would manage to help his mother. I’m reaching out to you, all the earth Angels out there, to help these beautiful souls who need support but would never ask for it themselves.

Mas has lost two of her front teeth, cracked two others, and their home is in desperate need of repairs. Your support, no matter the amount, can bring much-needed relief and comfort to their lives.

A thousand dollars will go to fix her teeth, the remainder will go to help rebuild their home.
