I’m reaching out for help as my sister Porscha whom suffers from Cystic Fibrosis has just contracted mrsa in the lungs which is potentially a death sentence for someone with Cf.
She found out on Wednesday 16th of October and that’s when her world literally flipped, she went into her appointment with a smile on her face excited that in only a weeks time she’d be starting a new drug that has just come out which could have been her “miracle” drug as she likes to call it but with the new bacteria everything’s up in the air and the medicine she’s been waiting for her entire life and hounding her doctors to somehow manage to get it for her for the past year since it came out for trials may no longer be an option for her.
For the next 28 days she has to take several strong antibiotics some of which with nasty side affects and are all costly but that’s not the bank breaking part, in efforts to try and eradicate it she has to do an entire house and car sterilisation and decontamination which has left her having to throw out basically 80% of what she owns, lounges and any fabric furniture her sons toys and teddys, pillows, duvets, curtains and so on, for the house to be sterilised shes looking at around $1800 and it needs to be done twice so $3600 just for cleaning, the cars been quoted at $500 for sterilisation of the upholstery which will need to also be done twice, and for a family that lives off a weekly income with no savings at all this is a really hard time but it has to be done to save her and you can’t put a price on life.
For this process her partner has had to take 5 days off work and both him and their son also have to take the antibiotics in hope Porscha has the best chance at beating it, my sister is never an emotional person but seeing how this is affecting her is just devastating so I’ve turned to the community to ask for help, as I want to take some of the stress off of their plate.
I have come straight down from Coffs Harbour to help her with this entire process both physically and emotionally but all the help we can get is soo appreciated, she’s already lost 8% lung function in just two weeks and for someone that’s only got 30% she can’t lose anymore.
