The clinic has expressed that while they cannot accept donations directly, they can definitely confirm Misty’s medical needs and the surgery she will be requiring. Let them know you are asking about “Misty” Perez, or Kelly Perez (owner and mom of Misty). The vet is aware of the GoFundMe and is willing to cooperate with divulging information on Misty.*******
Hello everyone. It is with a lot of sadness that I am here asking for help. Any help with getting my Misty medical assistance. On August 22nd, we were woken up in the middle of the night with a long howl from Misty, a sound we’ve never heard her make before. She wouldn’t walk and she couldn’t stay standing. She kept falling over and losing her balance. She started vomiting and that’s when we decided to rush her to the ER. There we were told it would cost $2K JUST to do bloodwork and that we should wait until the morning to have her normal vet see her because they didn’t know what was wrong with her they those simple exams would cost an arm and a leg.
Her normal vet did x-rays and it looked like she had spinal compression that was causing pain and trouble with walking. She was put on a couple medications for inflammation to alleviate the compression and for pain. 20 days later and she’s worse than she was before. She has poor balance and falls to the side when she walks. She has also developed an abnormal behavior or keeping her lower jaw slightly open. This may be nerve damage due to the compression, resulting in a condition called Trigeminal Neuralgia. This will prevent her from being able to eat and drink on her own.

She will not eat. She will not drink. I was told these were side effects of the prednisone medication dose being lowered. It has now been 2 days off the medication and her health is rapidly declining. I made an appointment with a neurologist who says an MRI is needed to see what is causing her to lose mobility in her hind legs as she is walking with difficulty and she barely has strength to support her own body when standing. The MRI is going to be $5k and surgery will most likely be necessary. I have already spent $2k on vet visits in the past month alone.

I’m asking for any and all help. I’m a teacher and unfortunately, cannot afford what is inevitably coming. Misty is also my seizure detection service dog. She is my best friend. She is family. I’m terrified and cannot sleep and I’m battling my own sickness while this is unfolding. I can’t lost her and I can’t bear to see her like this in pain and unable to eat. She is incredibly weak and she is withering away. This is happening so fast. If there is anything at all you can spare to donate. Anything at all, I’ll forever be grateful. Tomorrow morning we go for her MRI and neurology appointment. Thank you for reading this far.
