URGENT SITUATION

Mike has perforated bowels and is going septic. He's in critical condition and needs immediate medical evacuation from Provo, where the healthcare facilities aren't adequate for his emergency. Every hour counts in this situation.

UPDATE (Apr 10, 12:35PM EST)

Mike was moved out of the ICU on Tuesday night and is continuing to show positive signs of recovery. Today he's undergoing additional scans and bloodwork to monitor his healing progress. Mike has been successfully evacuated to Larkin Hospital in Florida and is now out of surgery. The medical team has placed two tubes in his abdomen to drain the infection, and will be in for a week. Mike is currently stable but still sedated. Carl is on his way to be with Mike when he wakes up, and Muffy is resting nearby. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to make this emergency care possible. Your quick response and generosity have been absolutely crucial in getting Mike the life-saving treatment he needed. Mike has been accepted to Larkin Hospital in Florida. Mike's condition is still critical but we will continue updating here.

WHAT HAPPENED

Mike was admitted to the hospital at 5pm yesterday. Doctors have now determined he has perforated bowels and is going septic - a life-threatening condition requiring immediate surgical intervention. His blood pressure is low and dropping, and doctors insist he must be evacuated today.

THE NEED

We've managed to cover some initial costs, but Mike has no insurance coverage. We urgently need funds to:

Pay for medical evacuation to either the US or Cayman Islands

Cover emergency surgery costs

Pay for initial hospital admission and treatment

Support his recovery process

The full costs aren't yet known, but medical evacuation alone can cost $25,000+, and emergency surgery without insurance will be substantial.

HOW THE FUNDS WILL BE USED

I am a friend of Mike's and also working together with Mike to make a film about him. When this medical emergency happened, Mike's condition was critical and required immediate action. We had to raise $150,000 upfront to cover Mike's emergency medical evacuation to Miami and to pay the required deposit for his life-saving surgery at Larkin Hospital. Several close friends stepped in with significant personal loans to make this happen quickly while we organized this fundraiser. The funds raised will first be used to repay these initial donors who made Mike's emergency care possible.

Marius, who is one of Mike's closest friends, is managing the funds. He is working directly with the hospital financial department and will ensure all medical bills are paid properly. Any additional funds beyond the immediate medical expenses will be used to support Mike's post-surgery recovery treatments, rehabilitation, and basic living expenses during his recovery period.
