Urgent Help for Melissa's Safe Relocation

Hi. My name is Melissa and this is, in short, my story.

In 2021, I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis with chronic migraine, degenerative disc disease, and rheumatoid arthritis. At that time, I had been working in a warehouse for over four years, having given up my role as a Certified Home Health Aide due to weakness in my legs and daily headaches. By December of 2023, my job was causing me unbelievable pain in my back and legs. That, combined with a lot of missed time due to migraines two or three times a week, I lost my job.

I was forced to leave my home at that time because I had no income and had to move in here, an unsafe house that was basically abandoned (the owner is a hoarder who uses it solely for storage). The roof leaks to the point that the ceiling has caved in throughout multiple spots in the house. The basement is full of mold, mildew, and water from active leaks. The refrigerator and AC do not work (likely from sitting for years in an unheated, bug-infested house). The kitchen plumbing doesn’t work and is missing the elbow from the drain pipe.

My car was repossessed in February, so I cannot even get to the food pantry for assistance and only have food because a very dear friend will send me non-perishables every few months. I no longer have proper phone service and only have Wi-Fi calling, which I will lose when my power is cut off. This is what I’m most afraid of. I have no one here, so should I fall in the house and injure myself, I’ll have no way to call for help and could be left lying on the floor for weeks before anyone even misses me. This is why my friend has asked me to come live with her, which I will do if I can ever come up with the moving costs.

With the help of an attorney, I have been battling with the Social Security Administration to receive disability benefits since May 2024, and I have had no income since then. As a result, I’ve lost everything.

I know that everyone is struggling right now and that this is a big ask, but my situation is dire and dangerous. Any assistance you can offer would be greatly appreciated. It could literally save my life.
