Urgent help for Mayo's care
Donation protected
---Mayo is back in the hospital with an esophagus constriction, we're praying that she will stay strong ---
-- thank you everyone! Mayo is doing much better, she is sleeping a lot but we think she's on a good recovery road --
Hi, my name is Jasmin, and I am desperate to give my cat the care she deserves.
Almost 3 years ago, I adopted Mocha, a lovely ragdoll boy, and after just one month, I lost him to FIP... it was aggressive and far too quick..
The treatment was extremely expensive, and we ran out of time. I won't allow for Mayo to suffer the same fate..
She's a young 2 year old cat, and has been healthy until now, so the sudden onset of her being poorly was very surprising.
Even with insurance, the vet bills for emergency care are extremely steep, and even my partner and I cannot support it all together.
Currently, we are looking at a £3-5k vet bill for just tonight, and more than half of that will be coming from our savings, but it won't include Mayo's rehabilitation.
This figure can easily rise up to £7-9k should there be complications, but we are praying for this not to be the case.
Mayo presented with lethargy and pain when touched, she didn't show any interest in food and water for the first day.
I took her to the vets immediately, they figured it might be a soft tissue injury and sent us home, unfortunately, she didn't respond at all to the medication.
Every day from then on, she became skinnier, except for her abdomen, which stayed the same.
The next morning, I took her in again, as she had gotten worse overnight, even wetting herself and losing the strength to move.
Bloodwork was done, and they found that she only had 10% of her red blood cell,s which implied that she might have infectious anaemia, as the vets were not sure if it was due to a parasite or her immune system, they started her on antibiotics and steroids while we waited for the labs to come back.
In the meantime, I did everything I could to stay on top of her hydration and food intake, syringe feeding her every hour and making sure she drank water.
I am keeping a log of everything done and given to her during the day, to make sure that she is being looked after properly at home, but it wasn't enough.
The next morning, she had a 39.9C fever, which, thank lord, went down after a few hours to an acceptable range. Unfortunately, she didn't get better physically; she just seems to decline.
Having almost no energy to stand up, dragging her legs and not sleeping at all during those 3 days.
Today at our usual vet, we were advised to bring her to a bigger clinic to get a blood transfusion.
She is at Willow's Solihull veterinary centre and in good hands for the night, but the doctors are still figuring out what is wrong with her, and I don't want to skip out on urgent testing just because they are overly expensive...
We spoke thoroughly with the attending vet, who calmly talked us through the options and what her recommendations are for Mayo's recovery.
She needs to get some checks done, as the vet found that she has blood in her stomach, which indicates that she is bleeding internally. A quick ultrasound revealed an abnormal structure, which needs to be further investigated with an in depth ultrasound and possible CT if the specialists say so. For now she is getting all the fluids and a canine blood transfusions, unfortunately they couldn't get an A type feline donor in, but hopefully this will be enough to jump-start her own blood production.
I hope to hear good news in the morning that she is stable now, but I worry greatly for her.
I've added pictures of her from the last 2 days, it is quite visible that she is poorly... the last two are of her when she was healthy and happy.
I'm desperate....please help if you can.
Pray or share this with anyone who could help </3
I will be updating the post as we get new information, so you can read about her recovery!
