As most of you know, Logan got admitted into the Pediatric ICU because he went into diabetic ketoacidosis and has been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. He is still currently in the hospital, and the doctors are working to get all his levels back to normal so he can hopefully go home soon.
About a week and a half ago, I found out the boys were denied being renewed to stay on CHIP. Their coverage ended on October 31, and this is the first time they have ever not had health insurance. None of them ever get sick or go to the doctor, so I was praying we could make it through just two months without insurance until this happened. I had already gotten them insurance through the marketplace, since it’s open enrollment, but it does not start until January. I have put in an appeal to get it to start sooner, but I was told it most likely won’t be approved. We are also working with a social worker to hopefully get a discount on the hospital stay and all the bills, but there is no guarantee we will be approved or for how much. We will have to pay out of pocket for everything, including his medicine, which is crazy expensive, and all his upcoming doctor's visits until our insurance starts.
We have no idea how we are going to be able to do this, and we are asking for any help. Anything and everything is greatly appreciated to get us all through this crazy hard time.
Logan is taking it extremely well so far, but this is a life-changing event and will need medical care for the rest of his life now.
Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts.
