My name is Laura. I'm a single mom with a teenage son. Just 4 short months ago, I visited Ohio and fell in love with the country life. Open space for my family and a place for my rescue dogs. We rented a home off Zillow and moved in. I had a job lined up with a new small dog rescue and went right to work. Building the website, setting up transport, setting up low-cost vet services, and fundraising. Saving dogs.

I also volunteered at a nationwide husky rescue, 20 or more hours per week.

Within the 1st month, May 2024, we had a storm and the roof caved in, just in my son's room. The landlord never fixed it. The well pump went out and again the landlord left us and my dogs without water for 3 days. I paid someone to fix it as we needed water.

I then read up on my renters' rights and requested the repair be done in 30 days. Still, nothing got fixed. I went to the courthouse to place the rent in escrow so the court would make him fix the house.

The court denied the rent escrow and sent me to Public Health and Safety who notified me the house is condemned.

The house currently only has power in 2 rooms, the washing machine water runs into the yard. We have leaks from the windows in 4 rooms. We have a hole in the roof, mold in the wall. And Public Health and Safety will be coming to lock us out at the end of the month.

I never believed I would need help in this way. I work, my son started high school, and everything changed in a blink of an eye.

We have found and applied for a new home.

I have a lawyer helping me with the legal issues. But I need to get my family and rescue dogs safe.
