Urgent Help for Koda's Medical Expenses
Donation protected
Hi everyone, my name is Kelsie and I am organizing a go fund me on behalf of Christian Heiberg for the cost of urgent care visits for his cat, Koda.
Koda is a sweet and loving cat that has been part of his family for 9 years. When he began growling and showing signs of pain while trying to urinate on Monday, we knew something was wrong. We took him to urgent care where they confirmed he had a complete urinary blockage. They placed a catheter in, removed the crystals, and he came back home on Wednesday. We caught it early enough to where his urinalysis came back pretty normal and so we expected a recovery. However, on Thursday, his issues continued to persist and he became lethargic, refused food and water, and appeared to be in further pain. We were able to take him into our regular vet that day, where they confirmed he had another blockage, and needed the catheter again. He came back home that same day, and the next morning his condition was even worse. He could barely stand, still hadn’t eaten or drank any water, and appeared to be in significant amount of pain despite the pain medication he was on. We knew something serious was going on and so we took him in a third time to an urgent care hospital where they confirmed he had another blockage. Here they discovered that he had developed a tear to his urethra. His urine was collecting underneath his skin. This has affected his kidneys and the loss of blood has made him anemic. With these factors, the best plan of action is to allow the urethra to heal itself over the course of the next week. He will stay at the vet until next Friday with a catheter in place 24/7 and fluids everyday. The hope is that the fluids will help his kidneys and when they take the catheter out on Friday, his urethra will have healed properly and he will be able to properly urinate. If he still has an issue, he will need Perineal Urethrostomy surgery to widen his urethra permanently.
The good news is that he has a fair chance of making a recovery and coming home, although we will not know whether he needs further surgery until we see how his urethra heals. However, the financial burden is significant. The combined total of veterinary bills are approaching $10,000. My goal of this fundraiser is to help alleviate the financial stress for Christian and do everything we can to help Koda make a full recovery. Unfortunately, Christian lost his grandfather a week before Christmas this past year, so this has been a very difficult time for him prior to almost losing Koda too.
Any donation, whether it be $1 or more, will be greatly appreciated. I have hope that we can bring him home at the end of this.
