Hello, my name is Holly. I'm making this post in hopes to offset vet costs for my 4-year-old German Shepherd, Kiba.
On July 18th, Kiba appeared to have difficulties eating due to jaw pain. After a vet exam and x-rays, they believed he might have a bone infection. We were sent home with antibiotics and pain medications, though they were not sure of the cause.
On July 28th, I noticed Kiba walking awkwardly; his back legs seemed to have difficulties supporting him. I immediately contacted my vet, and he was seen. They advised us to get him an appointment at a vet that has MRI or CT availability. They also changed his antibiotics.
When we brought Kiba home, his condition appeared to rapidly devolve, and he was struggling to walk, go up steps, or get up from the floor.
Kiba was taken to the emergency vet that evening. I was told the following morning that his condition has worsened and he is struggling to even stand now. The neurologist checked him and advised an MRI. She stated currently the vet bill is at over $14,000, and with the MRI, it would be another $5,700.
As of right now, his illness is unknown, and I have been given no answers. I am waiting for a call back about his MRI results. I anticipate more bills to come.
Kiba was healthy and had no medical issues prior, so we are very confused and devastated by his very sudden decline in health.
Kiba has been through a lot with me in our 4 years, including a surgery on my leg and hip, which has limited my own ability to walk the last 5 months. My hope is for us both to recover so that we can go on long walks again. I cannot fathom living without him.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.
Kiba and Holly
