Urgent Help Needed for Kevin's Cancer Treatment
Donation protected
Aloha, my name is Sue, my husband Kevin is in a bad place, he’s being admitted to the hospital again for the third time. He is a wood sculptor. He has had a terrible time for a year now since an anaphylactic episode he had to Rainbow Eucalyptus carving a tiki. Since then his blood numbers have been very low, hemoglobin, platelets, red and white blood cells. He has had to to a lot of transfusions. We live in a rural part of the Big Island of Hawaii and the hospitals and doctors on this island could not give him a diagnosis. The tests he needed were not available here. We did discover he has a genetic disorder, hemochromatosis, which makes him retain too much iron, so his iron levels were high on top of being anemic. Finally after he started having a lot of spleen pain, I took him to Honolulu for bone marrow and liver biopsies. He was diagnosed with MDS Myelodysplastic Syndrome, a type of bone cancer where the bone marrow doesn't produce enough healthy blood cells. There are no treatments here in Hawaii at all for this and we have to travel to Oregon for treatments. His appointment there is set and airline tickets booked, yet now he is in the hospital again in EXTREME pain. I am asking for help with all the medical and travel expenses to help us get through this terrible time and hopefully get the treatments he will need to get better.
