Urgent Help for Katherine and Her Dog Ruby

Hi everyone. My name is Katherine Moreta. I’m a 23 year old nursing student currently studying at Purdue University Northwest. I am also serving in the Army national guard for over 6 years now.

This past week my life shifted when my father put his hands on me. My father has a history of alcohol abuse and anger issues. 2 days ago he came at me by slamming the back of my head against the floor and choking me. He broke my glasses on my face and left bruises on my neck and the back of my head. This altercation lasted until the police arrived. I have never felt fully safe living in that house but this was the breaking point for me to leave. Currently I have been bouncing around from place to place in hopes to find my own place. I’ve been applying to every job for a little while now and I still have not been able to find one. I packed very light and I’m trying to move all of my things as quickly as possible into a temporary storage unit until I can find a home. The picture above is my dog Ruby. Ruby is an unclaimed stray that I took in a few months ago. She was very skinny and had a lot of trauma I’m assuming is from her previous owner. She is very attached to me and has a hard time trusting others. The place I’m currently staying at can’t have a dog. I’ve looked nonstop for places that temporarily foster dogs until I can find a home, but I have not heard anything back. This all happened so quickly that I don’t know what else to do or where to go from here. I don’t want to give Ruby up which is why I’m making this post in hopes to spread my story and get any help that I can. Thank you all for reading.
