My name is Karen Haines and I’m the mother of three grown sons. My middle son is Jeremy. About 5 years ago, he had a bad accident, falling from the top of an oil changing pit, backwards, hitting his head, abdomen, and whole body on the concrete floor. His left ear was torn off and his organs were affected by the impact. He didn’t have insurance. He was taken to the Trauma Center in Tyler, TX, patched up, had his ear sewn back on, and sent home. He’s had severe issues since then and hasn’t received Disability yet for some reason. He has no income. He has seizures, including a grand mal seizure that set him back a lot. I help as much as I can, but I’m retired with only Social Security income.

He needs help desperately now and I can’t do anything anymore. His medications are very expensive and after he finally got insurance, it has lapsed and he can’t get the medication he has to have. He has a severe TBI and brain damage that causes his seizures and memory loss. I don’t like asking for help, but he’s not doing well and has run out of options. If anyone can help with any amount, please let us know. I’m very worried and can’t stand seeing my strong son in this condition both physically and mentally. He’s not the type to beg for help, so I’m doing this for him. It’s gotten worse and worse. Anything will help.

He doesn’t like to talk about it because he doesn’t want people to pity him, but I’ve always been the one who will do whatever it takes to take care of my family. He’s gone from being a big, strong, hard-working man in the oil fields of Texas for over 20 years to a man who can’t drive or have any sort of job due to his head injury. His liver, kidneys, spleen, stomach, and pancreas were all affected by the fall. We’re so blessed that he even lived through that trauma to his body. They’re expensive medications and before the insurance lapsed, he was doing okay getting them. Now he can’t.
