Everyone who knows me knows that this is not something I would feel comfortable doing for myself, but I'm trying to help a friend that I've known since 8th grade who is in desperate need.
She had hip surgery exactly a year ago this week in October that became badly infected and needed to be redone on December 2nd, 2024. She ended up in Seashore Point rehab for 6 weeks on an antibiotic drip. The second surgery was not successful, and after getting a new doctor, she had a revision done on April 7th this year where a spacer was put in place with the anticipation of the 4th procedure being late 2025. It is scheduled for November 24th.
In the meantime, she lost a job she loved as an Occupational Therapist Assistant at a nursing home. In the midst of all this, her puppies started needing some healthcare. Lacey, the Spaniel, has a large growth on her eyelid that is growing larger and larger and keeps her from being able to close her eye. Penny, a Puerto Rican rescue, is in dire need of dental care. We found a place that offers veterinary care for low-income people at South Shore Animal Services in Hanover. We went there on October 17th, and the initial costs for the exams for both dogs, plus blood work, was $913.00. Unfortunately, the lab work isn't covered under their low-income policy as it is a separate entity.
I have just gotten the estimates for the surgical procedures for each dog. The removal of the eye growth comes in at $605.00, and the dental work estimate is $579.00. The surgeries are scheduled for Tuesday, November 4th, with payment due upon services rendered. My friend, who is now on Social Security and receiving SNAP benefits among other help, just has no way to cover this much-needed care, and I am going to pay for as much of it as I can, but it is a big chunk of money for us to absorb.
If anyone is able to help, I, and my friend, would be eternally grateful. I can provide all documentation of billing to anyone who wants to see it, or you can call the clinic directly and offer a one-time payment towards the bills for Penny and Lacey. I know things are tight for most people right now, and it is a lot to ask, but if you are able, it is greatly appreciated. Thank you!!!
Every cent, 100% of the money raised goes to the healthcare of these pups.
