As many of you have seen, severe flooding has swept across Sumatra. Some of the most remote villages are still cut off without access to food, clean water, electricity, or any way to meet their basic needs. The first wave hit two weeks ago, and as the rain continues, the flooding is rising again. Families are exhausted, frightened, and trying to survive with almost nothing left.

I’ve been living in a small village in Sumatra for some time now. This island became my home long before this disaster through friendships, community, and the deep connection I’ve built with local families. When the floods hit, my friends from these affected areas were the ones who told me what was happening: entire homes washed away, belongings destroyed, children sleeping in damp temporary shelters, and no help reaching them because of how isolated the villages are.

Together with my team at Escape To Sumatra, we are doing everything we can to support the people who have welcomed us so warmly. But the needs are urgent, and we can’t do it alone.

We are raising funds to provide essential emergency supplies, including:

• Food and clean drinking water

• Basic clothing and hygiene items

• Immediate support for families who lost their homes

• Tools and materials to clear mud and debris

If donations allow, we hope to continue with long-term recovery: rebuilding homes, restoring community spaces, and supporting emotional healing once the immediate crisis stabilizes.

I live in a rural village in Sumatra, where I work closely with local communities and support sustainable, community-based tourism. Through these connections, I learned quickly about the villages that were hit the hardest and places forgotten because they are far from main roads and receive little government attention.

There are no administrative fees or personal costs taken from this fundraiser.

Every donation will be used to buy and deliver essential items directly to the affected families.
