The Fangak Community Association in the USA (FCA-USA) issues an Urgent Appeal for Aid: Catastrophic Flooding Displaces Thousands in Old Fangak, South Sudan.
On August 31, 2025, the Fangak Community Association in the USA received devastating news: catastrophic flooding had completely submerged Old Fangak Town in South Sudan. A protective dyke failed, unleashing floodwaters that have displaced thousands of people. Our worst fears have been realized—not a single home is left standing.
We extend our sincere gratitude to the NGOs already responding on the ground, such as Alaska Health projects in South Sudan, which have played a fundamental role in relocating individuals to dry locations, using their own resources. Their swift action has been critical.
For the fourth consecutive year, Fangak County has generally faced floods, but we have never witnessed destruction on this scale. Entire families have lost everything—their homes, their belongings, and their sense of security. They are now exposed to the elements, facing immense risks from waterborne diseases and malaria.
Why is Fangak so Vulnerable to floods?
Fangak County is located in the vast Sudd wetlands, one of the largest swamps in the world. Situated on a flat, low-lying island at the confluence of major rivers, the land is extremely vulnerable to flooding. While seasonal floods are common, this disaster is unprecedented, leaving our community in a fight for survival.
Our Mission: Provide Immediate, Life-Saving Aid. The Fangak Community Association (FCA-USA) is launching this emergency campaign to provide urgent, direct relief. Every dollar raised will be used to purchase and deliver essential supplies to the most affected families. We have a clear and actionable plan. Once the funds are in place, our leadership team will personally coordinate the delivery of aid on the ground, working with trusted NGO partners to ensure help reaches those who need it most.
Urgent Needs & Funding Goals. We aim to provide the most critical items first. Here is a breakdown of our immediate goals:
· Emergency Tents: Shelter from rain and sun is the top priority.

· Total Needed: $21,000
· Mosquito Nets: A vital defense against malaria in the stagnant waters.

In the face of a devastating tragedy, the Fangak Community Association in the USA (FCA-USA) is turning to the global community for urgent support. Your generosity can provide a critical lifeline for those in need. Every contribution, no matter the size, makes a profound difference:

· $420 can shelter an entire family.
We also ask you to share this campaign with your friends, family, and social networks. Spreading the word is another powerful and essential way to help.
