Urgent Help for Elena and Baby Elliot
Donation protected
Hello Friends and Family,
My name is Valerie Kingston Jacobvitz and I am raising funds for a dear friend of mine, Elena, and her toddler, Elliot, who has acute respiratory failure.
When Elliot was a little less than 3 months old, on July 4th, 2023 he was admitted to the hospital because he was breathing extremely fast and his oxygen levels in his blood were very low. A DNA analysis and a biopsy did not show any genetic abnormalities and the doctors decided to share his test results with a network of pulmonologists all over the United States, in order to decide on a diagnosis. At the time, he was diagnosed with an extremely rare lung disease called neuroendocrine cell hyperplasia. Elliot remained hospitalized for over 8 months during which he got intubated twice and ended up getting a tracheostomy ( a tube placed down his throat connected to a ventilator and oxygen support). He also received a g-tube which is a surgery in the stomach that connects the tube to a machine that disperses food directly into his stomach.
Since he has been home he has had to continuously rely on the ventilator to breathe. He recently had a sleep study the results of which casts doubts on his former diagnosis. Unfortunately, the sleep study showed that Elliot is in need of even more air pressure from the ventilator. According to the original diagnosis, Elliot should be needing less air support not more. At this time the doctors do not know exactly the cause of his condition. He was scheduled to have surgery on December 10th where the Doctors were going to take a closer look into his lungs with a camera, but because he had a fever, they had to cancel that surgery for now. When they can do the surgery they will perform more tests to try and reach a more accurate diagnosis.
Elliot lives with his mother, Elena, in Astoria, Queens. She is fully dedicated to his daily care. I have seen her with him and she is so amazing and patient with him. Unfortunately, she is not able to work and has been living off her savings (that are depleted) and she is now asking for help from her family members, who can only afford so much. She needs money for basic monthly necessities including rent, phone, and electricity ( her electric bill is very high because the ventilator has to run 24 hours a day 7 days a week, along with an oxygen generator and a humidifier). The state only helps her with food expenses and a reduced transportation rate. She is in fear that she will have to move into a shelter with her 20 month old baby. And I am afraid for her as well. Please give if you can.
