Urgent Help for Dona
Donation protected
I have created this GoFundMe for my "Auntie" Dona and on behalf of the Manning family, due to a recent medical crisis. Just months ago, Dona was suddenly and unexpectedly diagnosed with advanced liver disease. What started as fatigue, mild discomfort, and abdominal swelling has escalated into end-stage liver failure within the span of weeks. Doctors have since discovered she is also battling multiple, as-yet-undiagnosed autoimmune conditions that are attacking her body from the inside out. Most devastating of all, Dona has recently experienced a rapid decline in not just her health status but her cognitive and physical abilities. Once independent and full of energy, she is now struggling to walk, speak clearly, and has lapses in memory and behavior frequently.
Dona's husband Doug (my uncle) is with her day and night, lifting her, repositioning her, feeding her and watching over her. Doug himself, struggles with health issues and has hurt his back in the process of lifting her. Dona's children Summer and DJ have been flying into care for and advocate for her, on and off since this nightmare began. I know how helpless they feel living in different states and being unable to ensure she's getting proper medical care, with motivated and compassionate doctors. My uncle, cousins, myself and the rest of our family are extremely worried about what the next steps are for Dona and how it will play out, practically-speaking.
She urgently needs a liver transplant to survive, and she needs it soon. But the financial toll is overwhelming. From endless hospital visits, specialists, and labs, to long-term care, mobility assistance, and the transplant process itself—the costs are more than we can bear alone. Insurance is limited, and so much of what she needs is either only partially covered or not covered at all. She will require extensive post-transplant care, including rehabilitation, medications, and round-the-clock support.
Our beautiful Dona—a devoted wife, loving mother, amazing sister, proud grandmother, and cherished aunt—has been the heart of our family for decades. She is the kind of person who has always put others first, who offers kindness without condition, and whose love is a steady light in our lives. As her niece, Dona has been a mother figure to me over the years. She has been a judgement free zone and someone who shares her own vulnerabilities and life experiences. She has taught me that to be make mistakes is to be human and that vulnerability is strength. She has never been afraid to be herself and she'll never judge anyone for this either--a truly unique, strong and loving woman.
We are asking for your help.
Anything you can give—whether it’s $1 or $500—will go directly toward:
* Hospital bills and specialist visits
* Liver transplant evaluation and procedure
* Long-term care and physical therapy
* Home health aides and mobility assistance
* Life-saving medications post-transplant
* Monetary support for her husband, who is doing everything he can to be by her side—this includes help with:
* Ongoing housing and utility bills
* Travel and hotel costs so he can stay near her during long hospital stays and treatments
* Everyday living expenses while managing this unimaginable crisis
We know times are hard for everyone right now, but even just sharing this campaign can help us reach someone who can make a difference.
Dona spent her life as a business owner loving and caring for others. She raised two children and has always been a guardian angel to those in need. Now, she needs us to love and care for her.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support, your prayers, and your kindness.
