Urgent help for disabled First Nations DJN member

Donation protected
A multiply marginalised disabled First Nations community member is in urgent need of support. The Disability Justice Network is assisting in raising funds to support this person.

They are currently facing an extensive list of medical costs after being forced to leave their workplace.

This includes:
  • Liver MRI to rule out a lesion being cancerous (this scan is unfortunately not covered by Medicare)
  • Deroofing surgery of a Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS) wound
  • Six initial rounds of Prolotherapy to manage chronic musculoskeletal pain
  • Specialist consult interstate to investigate Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leaks and internal jugular vein compression

As well as facing financial precarity with chronic pain and unresolved medical needs, this community member is also a long-term carer for their disabled parent. As the primary carer for their parent, they have been financially supporting them for the past year and now are faced with helping cover additional costs associated with moving their loved one into stable housing.

Donating to this fund will help provide urgent medical care and help the loved one they care for end an extended period of housing precarity. It will also allow them a small safety net to find other work and finally have some breathing space to heal from recent trauma.

The ethics of mutual aid are close at heart to this person. They have been a community advocate and mutual aid organiser for many years, providing support for others while managing multiple disabilities and care responsibilities. This fundraiser is a chance to send back solidarity during an extremely distressing time.

Please dig deep and help us provide our deeply loved friend with the care and support they deserve.

Please note: the money raised in this fund are being transferred to a trusted community member and friend of the recipient, Eva Tolo. They will then transfer these funds on to the recipient as to maintain their anonymity.

Any excess funds will be donated to the DJN's ongoing mutual aid fund and used to support other multiply-marginalised disabled people.
