Emergency Help Needed for a Detroit Woman in Crisis
There is a 58-year-old single woman living on the Eastside of Detroit who urgently needs help. She has no children, no family support, and despite doing everything she can to survive, she has reached a breaking point.
She is one of the many people now known as the working poor — working full-time yet unable to meet basic needs. She doesn’t qualify for DHS assistance, and because of that, she is automatically disqualified from almost every major assistance program in Michigan. She has been quietly struggling alone, but things have now become unsafe.
Her Situation
Her lights and gas have been shut off for the past 3 months, and her utility bill has climbed to $1,800. She has been trying to pay it down on her own, little by little, but she simply cannot keep up.
This crisis began last year when an outdated fuse panel caught fire, damaging parts of her home. She paid to have the repairs and electrical upgrades done, but the cost wiped out what little savings she had.
On top of that:
She works 32 miles away
She pays for transportation 5–6 days a week
Rising expenses and repair costs pushed her deeper behind
Still, she has continued working, continued trying, continued pushing through the hardship — alone.
⚠️ Tonight, Her Safety Was Threatened
Just one hour ago, an intruder opened her front door trying to get inside.
She was able to slam it shut before he entered, but this is a terrifying sign:
Her home is now marked as a dark, powerless house — an easy target.
Living with no electricity, no gas, and no lights has made her vulnerability visible to the neighborhood. She is scared, exhausted, and running out of options.
Why This GoFundMe Matters
This fundraiser will help her:
Restore her lights and gas service
Make her home safe again
Catch up on the overdue utility bill
Relieve the pressure that has been crushing her for months
She is not lazy.
She is not irresponsible.
She is a woman who has worked her entire life — and has fallen through the cracks of a broken system.
She deserves safety.
She deserves dignity.
She deserves a chance to get back on her feet.
