Urgent help for Christy Mayo

Thank you for taking the time to read this. If you can help in any way, even if it’s just sharing her story with others who can help or share, it would make a world of difference for Christy at this point!
For ANYONE that knows Christy, she would NEVER ask for help, but it’s come to the point, with her permission that I am stepping up on her behalf and asking for help.
She has been very upbeat and positive in all her posts and we don’t feel that anyone really knows what’s going on, what she’s going through and what we are fighting. She just doesn’t want to upset or bother anyone all she ever wants or asks for is y’all’s prayers. I would like to take the time to explain….

As many of you know, and most have been trying to follow the progress of Debbie through Christy on Facebook, on Dec 2 my mother-in-law, Debbie Mayo was brought into McKinney Medical Center and spent 153 days in ICU diagnosed with Covid pneumonia. She was immediately placed on a ventilator and remains on pressure assistance through her trach and on a feeding tube. She still has no movement in her arms or legs, she cannot speak, but can mouth her words. She is 100% Debbie, her personality and sense of humor, her memory, etc. She is trying so hard and through it all has kept the best attitude.

Christy took a leave of absence from work when this happened and we are now over 170 days in… she has not left her mother's side and has advocated for her since day one. She is her voice.
Her stay in ICU is over and there were only two facilities in Texas they would accommodate her needs with the ventilator AND take her Medicaid insurance. One was 331 miles from home, the other 75 miles. We picked the one closer to home.
This facility is not meeting minimum care expectations from the state, and from our family. The quality of care being given is being questioned heavily as many of you know!

Christy is now 75 miles from her home and unable to leave her mother there alone with no voice and no advocate. As a matter of fact, if Christy hadn’t had been there last night, we could have lost Debbie. Christy's presence and involvement isn’t an option at this point. It’s an absolute must.

Christy has been sleeping in her truck. Debbie's mother, who is in her eighties, won’t leave either… she has spent several nights in her car in the parking lot refusing to leave Debbie and Christy. Anyone that knows Mamaw knows she is just as stubborn and determined as Debbie and Christy. (Thank you Ronnie for helping!!)
Showers are hard to come by on the road and gas is so expensive right now, she can’t afford to come to family members homes every day to do basic things such as sleep, shower and eat. There is nowhere in the joint patient room for Christy to recline, lay down or shower. She has made what little amount of money she had last for nearly 6 months.
If you know Christy personally, you know she will NOT ask for help. She will always figure out a way on her own if she can. She has made it as long as she can with little help financially, but the funds have run dry and her fight for her mother is not over.

Again, with her permission, I have created this for her. I did it because I have known her since I was 14 years old and I have never met a more selfless, giving, humble, loving person. Christy is the definition of giving… giving of her time, her money, her effort… anything anyone ever needs. And never expects anything in return. I thank God for her every single day, just for her presence in my life, just for being who she is. For those of you that know her, completely understand everything I’m saying… she is always there for everybody else.

And now she needs help, and as much support as she can get. So many of you have reached out and asked so many times how can I help? What do you need? And she just says she is okay… just pray. I know because I’m usually either sitting with her or on the phone with her. So, I’m reaching out for her. Please know everything goes straight to Christy …
Any donations will go towards finding a room or something similar, for Christy and Mamaw to rent, that is close to the facility. It will go towards gas, food, basic necessities and hygiene products, etc.
This money will need to last until November when Debbie's Medicare will kick in and then we can get her to an LTACH facility. That is where we will get the proper care and rehabilitation needed physically, as well as for her speech and learning to eat and drink.
Please keep the prayers coming! And thank you for anything you can do, please share this and we will keep you updated!
