"It is the small everyday deeds of ordinary folk that keep the darkness at bay. Small acts of kindness and love."
Please take a moment to read Baraa's story to the end and imagine the pain he carries every day.
Hello, my name is Baraa, and I am a 27-year-old pharmacist from Khan Yunis in Gaza. I was working two jobs when the war broke out, and everything I owned was destroyed in the bombing in January 2024, including my house, my family's house, and my pharmacy. Now I live in a tent with my family of eight, and I swear to God that we are living in extremely difficult and harsh conditions, with barely enough food and water. We've been displaced 18 times since our home was destroyed, and our tent was bombed in early June 2025. During this time, I have lost numerous friends and family members, including cousins and uncles.
Below is an image of our destroyed home.
Previous donations I received have greatly helped me throughout this time.
From before the siege, when prices were lower, the donations I received enabled me to purchase the following items for my family between January 2024 and January 2025: food for my family, baby formula, and baby hygiene products for my newborn nephew, as shown below.
My nephew was born during the war and in April 2025 he fell ill and was losing fluids from diarrhea. We were afraid we would lose him, but thankfully, your donations helped me purchase medicine ($75 Metronidazole suspension) and more diapers for him - the cost being so high due to the siege.
The evacuation orders in May 2025 forced my family to relocate again. Our bodies are greatly fatigued from malnutrition at this point, but thankfully your donations helped us move more easily to Al-Mawasi near the sea.
We were staying with a family because our tent was too large to move, and I would walk back and forth by foot between Abasan and Al-Mawasi to get what we needed. Doing so became increasingly risky with each passing day, and when I returned, our town in Abasan had been bombed, along with all of our stuff (mainly winter clothes), as well the belongings of the other eight families who had remained with us. Our tent was nowhere to be found, so we had to start over.
The situation:
The situation has become dire in Gaza due to the humanitarian crisis and the blockade of aid; the cost of living expenses and food have risen to astronomical levels. As long as the blockade remains in place, prices for goods rise on a daily basis. Every donation helps and is greatly valued. We are currently looking to buy clothes for winter, as our previous ones were bombed, as well as food to get us through this crisis.
Our goal
We are raising funds to help with:
- transportation, if required, as before, to move them to a secure location, even though, that is practically non-existing, at the moment;
- with food to provide nourishment for his family of eight and extended family;
- with medical care/medicine as disease is spreading, due to close living quarters and his nephew at a critical age of under 1 year old;
- with essential supplies required for everyday needs;
- and with evacuation costs to evacuate the area, if able to do so (currently around $5000 per person).
