I'm Elena Weinstein, I live in Bayonne, NJ. I'm a retired teacher who got to know this family of recent refugees* from Ukraine by helping the kids with math and the parents with translations. The family was OK, until in November 2023 their father abandoned them (!!) leaving them without job, without money, without English. He even cancelled their car insurance! I did a fundraiser then, and thanks to kind people we raised almost $3000 to help them stay afloat until the mom found some job. She has cleaned apartments, worked in a day care center, but it barely provided for the family of 4. Currently she works as a school custodian but without contract, so when she got sick in January, not only didn't she get paid but also had to spend what little they had on medicine. She needs to renew her car insurance before February 11, and she has absolutely no money. She didn't pay her last rent. I already stopped counting the money I lent to her...

I feel real pain for the mom who really struggles to feed her children (11, 9 and 5 years old), and I hope there are enough generous people who can share this pain with me. Please help them with as much as you can spare!

* Unfortunately, their immigration status doesn't allow them to get any public assistance.
