Help Needed for Disabled Senior and Rescue Cats
Donation protected
I have 18 unadoptable rescue cats. I lived in a city that does nothing about the out-of-control homeless cat population except to euthanize. In the 46 years I lived there I spayed and neutered, at my own expense, more than 100 cats as they took refuge in my yard, safe from most yards that had large dogs. A low-cost spay and neuter clinic made it possible for me to do that. I found homes for as many as I could, and kept the rest. Five years ago, animal control, run by the police, discovered that I had more cats than allowed. I had built a beautiful cattery in my garage. They were never outside to bother anyone and all were healthy, spayed or neutered and were well cared for. The police gave me one week to pick 7 and were going to take the rest and euthanize them. I wasn’t about to let that happen, so I moved.
Although the cats are a big expense, I’ve always managed until now. After water damage to my house and a claim, my insurance company for 46 years just dropped me. I’m now only eligible for CA Fair Plan and my insurance will cost HUNDREDS of dollars more a month, money that would have been spent on veterinarian bills and cat food! I’m a senior, now disabled. A teacher for 21 years, I fell at school on a bad step guard which ended my teaching career. As a teacher, I couldn't sue my employer because it was the State of California and having to go on disability damaged my retirement income. I'm not allowed more than I was getting for disability and have been on poverty level income since 1990. Surviving month-to-month was difficult BEFORE my insurance increased. I struggled to pay bills, especially veterinarian bills and car repair bills....my car is 25 years old and I drive as little as possible to save money on gas and auto repairs. I buy only necessities and only on sale, if possible. Someone suggested I do a GoFundMe account. Although I've struggled financially for many years, I've never asked anyone for help. Now, I don't know what else I can do. I recently had a HUGE veterinarian bill for a young tuxedo cat with a benign tumor under his tongue so large he couldn't close his mouth, let alone eat. In the process, 9 teeth had to be extracted. He's doing great, but my bank account was wiped out. The cat pictured on my GoFundMe, Lucky, now has a medical problem and needs an ultrasound and for the first time, thanks to an outrageously high insurance premium, I have no money to care for him or any others if they become ill. No matter how small, ANY amount you can help with will be GREATLY appreciated! Thank you very much!
