Urgent Help for a Devoted Mother Taken by ICE

My name is Omar, and I am trying to fundraise money to help with the legal assistance fees that my mother, Maria, requires to fight her immigration case after being taken by ICE.

On Friday June 20th as I had gotten off of work, I received a phone call from my mother. There was no response on her end only muffled sounds of men shouting instructions. Immediately I rushed to her job as I had been doing so all this month for the fear of ICE agents abducting factory workers in our community.

Sure enough when I arrived, my mother, along with some of her work colleagues, had been detained at their job.

My mom is no criminal. She is a single mother, and she is a seamstress. She has been a seamstress working for factories all my life. I've grown up seeing her work long hours getting paid minimum wage (sometimes even less) all to provide for me and my brother.

She is the type of person to put others before herself. She is hard working, dedicated, and resilient. I truly believe that no one is as hard working as her. To see her get taken due to her legal status, and seeing how her and other immigrants have been taken and how they are being treated is heartbreaking and devastating.

My mom has no criminal record, yet she is labeled as one all for wanting to work hard to provide. It feels very unfair.

I have already begun working with the law firm that my mother had been working with on a legal petition. We have also begun working on communicating with the detention center in order to present a case once my mother has her court hearing.

The lawyers have been upfront in quoting about how much the trajectory of the case will be, and it is a bit more than I am asking for. I have already used up what savings I had to have the law firm represent my mother, and I am hoping to use whatever is fundraised for potential bail money and to continue to have lawyers working on my mother's case. I would also like to use some of the money to assist my mother in paying at least another month's bills and rent for the apartment that she shares with my brother. My mother has been supporting my brother, and this would alleviate some of the expense stress on him while he works on finding a job to take over their expenses.
