Help Dr. Bhabu Get a Life-Saving Urgent Lung Transplant

Donation protected
Dear Friends, Colleagues, and Kind Supporters,
My name is Dr. Jegandan Seevaratnam, and I am reaching out with an urgent plea to help save the life of someone who has spent his entire career saving others.
Dr. B. Bhabu, a 46-year-old Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist from Sri Lanka, has dedicated his life to bringing new life into the world. Over the years, he has delivered thousands of babies and stood beside countless families during their most precious moments.
Today, Dr. Bhabu is fighting for his own life.
According to the Respiratory Unit at Teaching Hospital Jaffna, Dr. Bhabu has been diagnosed with Advanced progressive fibrotic Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD) with chronic respiratory failure and severe hypoxemia. His condition has deteriorated despite treatment.
  • He is now dependent on long-term oxygen therapy
  • He experiences severe breathlessness even with minimal activity
  • He cannot walk short distances, climb steps, or perform basic daily tasks
  • He has been forced to stop working as a doctor
A man who once worked tirelessly to save lives is now struggling to breathe.

A lung transplant is his only life-saving option.
Dr. Bhabu has been referred to the Heart-Lung Transplant Program at Apollo Hospitals, Chennai, India and advised to relocate to Chennai for evaluation, optimisation, and transplant listing.
However, this journey requires him to stay in Chennai for 8–12 months while awaiting a donor, undergo extensive testing and preparation and be ready for urgent transplant surgery once a donor is available.

Based on official estimates from Apollo Hospitals, the total cost is approximately $90,000 USD (or more depending on complications).
Breakdown:
  • Pre-transplant evaluation: $6,000 – $10,000
  • Lung transplant surgery (mandatory upfront deposit): $60,000
  • Organ transport (including charter logistics): $15,000 – $25,000
  • Living expenses in Chennai (~6–12 months): ~$1,200–$1,500/month
  • Post-transplant care & lifelong medications

The hospital requires 100% upfront payment of the transplant package just to be placed on the waiting list. This cost is overwhelming for Dr. Bhabu and his family—especially now that he can no longer work.

We are reaching out to you with hope. Your support—no matter how small—can make a life-saving difference.
Your contribution will help:
  • Secure his place on the transplant waiting list
  • Cover life-saving surgery and ICU care
  • Fund post-transplant medications and recovery
  • Support his family during the long stay in Chennai

If you cannot donate, you can still help save his life by sharing this campaign within your network, circulating it in medical and professional communities and posting it on social media. Awareness can be just as powerful as a donation.

Dr. Bhabu has spent his life answering the call of others in their moments of greatest need. Now, he needs us.
This is more than a medical appeal—it is a chance to:
  • Give a doctor a second chance at life
  • Restore dignity and hope to a family
  • Help someone return to serving the community again

All medical documents are available, including:
  • Specialist letter from Teaching Hospital, Jaffna, Sri Lanka.
  • Official Apollo Hospitals transplant cost estimate

Please help us give Dr. Bhabu the chance to breathe again.

I would like to provide more clarity about this fundraiser and how donations will be handled.

This fundraiser is being organised for my close friend, Dr. Bhabu, who is currently awaiting an urgent lung transplant. I am in direct contact with him and am supporting him during this critical time.
Dr. Bhabu currently resides in Sri Lanka and is in the process of arranging his travel to Apollo Hospitals in Chennai, India, where his lung transplant procedure is planned.

At present, I am collecting donations on his behalf. Once Dr. Bhabu arrives in Chennai and sets up his personal bank account in India, all funds raised will be transferred directly to his account. This ensures that the donations go straight to him and are used for his medical treatment, hospital expenses, and related costs.

I am committed to full transparency and will continue to post updates on his condition, treatment progress, and how the funds are being used.

Thank you all for your support, generosity, and trust during this difficult time.
