My name is Bela Khandker, a high school student living in Rogers Park. I am holding this fund raiser for my dad, whose car during the recent thunderstorm in Chicago, got damaged due to a massive tree falling on my family’s car. The tree caused major damage to the front of the car, including the engine, windshield, headlights, and doors, making the car not drive-able. Insurance has refused to cover the cost of the damage and we have tried to file a complaint through small claims court, but had no success. I want to use the funds I receive to help pay for the broken parts of the car, or hopefully purchase a new car that would work well for my family of 5.

Our family’s car is a mid-size SUV. My dad used this car to drive for Uber and our family used it for all of our daily needs. It was fully paid off and we cannot afford to go into debt for a new car. Since this car is not usable right now, our family income has been significantly reduced which has been really stressful for our family of 5.

We’re raising $10,000 to either repair our family’s car or to buy a preowned car at a similar price. $10,000-$15,000 is the quote provided by a mechanic on the total cost to repair the car. If we buy a preowned car, we’d be looking for a mid-size SUV that is comfortable and safe for our family, including my younger sister who uses a car-seat (she is five years old).
