Alden, 72, is now hospitalized — recovering not only from burns caused by a condo fire August 5th , but also from severe toxic mold illness after months of exposure in his home. His health has declined significantly, and he urgently needs our help to recover, rebuild, and return to a safe environment.
⸻
Alden’s life has been turned upside down in the past few months.
In April, a water leak from an upstairs unit caused mold to spread in his condo. Alden filed a claim and waited for the other party’s insurance to decide whether they would cover the damage. In the meantime, he had no choice but to live in the unit, exposed daily to mold.
The remediation company rescheduled three separate times, forcing Alden to pay nearly $4,000 out of pocket just to start cleanup. But while waiting, he became increasingly sick — exhausted, weak, and struggling to breathe.
Then, in early August, disaster struck again: a kitchen fire destroyed his stove, microwave, cabinets, and countertops, while smoke and water from the sprinklers damaged the rest of the condo. Alden suffered smoke inhalation and burn injuries and had to be rushed to the hospital.
To make matters worse, most of his furniture, clothing, and shoes had to be discarded because they were contaminated by mold or smoke and couldn’t be properly cleaned. He’s left with almost nothing.
Today, Alden remains hospitalized. He cannot return home until his condo is remediated, repaired, and refurnished with the essentials of daily living.
